The thirteenth season of American Horror Story has concluded with a dramatic finale titled "Devil of a Good Time," bringing the conflict between the Coven and Satan to a close. In the episode, young Mr. Nas, played by Paul Anthony Kelly, eliminates his medical specialist Mr. Phibes (John Waters) and an older version of himself. The narrative also sees Fiona Goode introducing Constance Langdon to witchcraft, while Ben and Madison's relationship results in the birth of a daughter whom young Mr. Nas resurrects after she appears lifeless.
Ultimately, the witches convince Ben to sacrifice himself to defeat Satan. Ben stabs his own heart with a sword, turning to ashes and trapping young Mr. Nas inside The Last Supper painting, a fate foreshadowed by Constance in the season premiere. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the conclusion, Kelly admitted he was "flabbergasted" by the ending, noting that the show's writers were developing the plot as filming progressed. He revealed that he had not yet watched the finale or much of the season due to his busy schedule filming The Housemaid's Secret and caring for his baby.
Kelly explained that young Mr. Nas intended for Ben to become his second-in-command, luring him into the "family business." Despite the character's villainous role, Kelly noted moments of mercy shown by Mr. Nas, including saving Madison and Ben's child, which he described as the character deciding to end the "great game." When asked why the Coven was allowed to get so close to defeating him, Kelly suggested it was a familial matter, given that Sarah Paulson's character is his grandchild.
Regarding the final scene involving John Waters' character, Kelly confirmed that Mr. Phibes was condemned to hell but granted his desire to make a biker movie for eternity. As for young Mr. Nas, Kelly described his fate as being stuck in the painting under the Coven's watch, likening it to purgatory rather than permanent death. He humorously suggested that this leaves open the possibility of the character returning in future seasons, perhaps even by season 18.
Kelly, who was a fan of the franchise before joining, cited Freak Show as his favorite season and highlighted dancing with Jessica Lange as a memorable experience. He expressed enjoyment working with legendary actors and noted that while he has no confirmed plans, he would seriously consider returning if called upon for the already renewed fourteenth season. The actor also shared his enthusiasm for continuing to work in the horror genre.
