The NFL and TMRW Sports have named their new professional flag football league Premier Flag, with the competition scheduled to begin in summer 2027. The launch will take place ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where flag football will be featured as an Olympic sport.
The inaugural season will be played in a purpose-built flag football stadium, although the location has not yet been announced. Media rights for the first season also remain under discussion. The summer schedule could give the league an opening in the sports calendar, with Major League Baseball identified as its main significant competition during that period.
Premier Flag will include both women’s and men’s divisions. TMRW Sports said the league aims to provide a professional platform for elite players, supported by training, strength and conditioning, nutrition and coaching programs.
Brendan Donohue, TMRW Sports’ president of flag football, described Premier Flag as a global and accessible destination for top women’s and men’s players. Brian Flinn, the NFL’s senior vice president of global flag football, said the league is intended to showcase leading players and create a new professional opportunity within the sport’s expanding international pathway.
The organizations had announced the league earlier in 2026. The project includes investment from all 32 NFL team owners, along with institutional and celebrity investors including Silver Lake, Ariel Investments/Project Level, Bessemer Venture Partners, Blue Pool Capital, Dynasty Equity, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams, Billie Jean King, Joe Montana and Alex Morgan.
Alex Morgan’s media and content company, TOGETHXR, will handle social content strategy and production for the league. Pivot Brand Group developed Premier Flag’s name, positioning and visual identity. The league is also expected to present a Premier Flag Showcase during Super Bowl LXI week.
