Nicolas Cage says he has been staying in hotels since a sinkhole damaged his home in Malibu. Speaking at Los Angeles Comic Con on Saturday, the actor described himself as “a little bit homeless” while discussing his Halloween plans.

“Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’m just sort of living in hotels,” Cage said. He added that he would not have the usual trick-or-treaters at home, but planned to take his 4-year-old daughter, August Francesca Coppola Cage, trick-or-treating in Santa Monica.

The sinkhole opened on September 8, reaching about 25 feet deep and measuring 30 by 60 feet. It swallowed part of the driveway and damaged the deck of Cage’s beachfront property. The collapse also restricted access for residents and emergency responders, prompting the evacuation of 31 properties in the area, including Cage’s.

Malibu officials declared a local emergency amid concerns about a possible gas leak. They warned that high tides and rain associated with Hurricane Marie could worsen conditions. No injuries were reported.

Cage also said he planned to watch The Shining after putting his daughter to bed, praising its director despite the film-maker having been nominated for worst director at the Razzies, as he put it.
