With fall festivals over, Oscar attention is shifting back to major releases that arrived earlier in the year. Their campaigns are aiming to remind Academy voters of films that could compete in acting, directing and technical categories.

Emily Blunt is set to begin an awards push for ‘Disclosure Day’ with a SAG Q&A in New York on November 11, followed by an event in Los Angeles on November 13. She is also scheduled for press events connected to the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes, interviews, and a December 10 presentation of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film. Universal is highlighting Blunt’s performance as a weather presenter inhabited by aliens. The film could also contend in craft categories, including cinematography, editing, sound and visual effects, alongside composer John Williams and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski.

‘Project Hail Mary’ is also returning to cinemas, with IMAX and IMAX 70 screenings scheduled to begin December 11. Ryan Gosling is being positioned as a Best Actor contender for his role as scientist Ryland Grace, who must solve problems on a mission to save Earth. Sandra Hüller and James Ortiz are also among the film’s acting contenders, while directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and screenwriter Drew Goddard could enter the awards conversation. The film is additionally in contention for several technical awards, including visual effects, sound, cinematography and editing.

Universal has announced a screening and panel programme for ‘The Odyssey’, bringing Christopher Nolan, cast members and key crew before guild and Academy audiences. The film is due on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on November 17. Matt Damon is being discussed as a Best Actor front-runner for his portrayal of Odysseus, while Anne Hathaway is among the Supporting Actress contenders as Penelope. Samantha Morton plays Circe; John Leguizamo, Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland are also identified as possible Supporting Actor contenders.

The source’s awards assessment expects ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Project Hail Mary’ to be among the leading films at nominations time, with each potentially receiving between 10 and 15 nominations. ‘Sinners’ currently holds the record cited in the report, with 16.
