President Donald Trump responded to Democrats flipping both the House and Senate in Tuesday’s 2026 midterm elections with a series of posts criticizing Fox News and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Democrats also won Senate races in Texas, South Carolina and North Carolina, according to the report. Abbott lost his re-election bid to Democrat Gina Hinojosa.

Trump blamed Abbott’s loss on what he described as the governor’s shift in his final six months in office. He also accused Fox News of contributing to Republican defeats by giving airtime to Democratic voices, singling out former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

In another post, Trump shared an image of red caps bearing the word “VETO” and said he planned to become a political pundit to discuss why candidates had won or lost. Earlier, he had claimed on Truth Social that he would have won “IN A LANDSLIDE” if he had been on the ballot.

Trump was not a candidate in the midterms. The report also notes that he is ineligible to run for president again in 2028 because the 22nd Amendment limits a person to being elected president twice; Trump won elections in 2016 and 2024.

Despite his criticism of the results, Trump told The New York Times shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday that he was “absolutely willing to accept” them. He added that he would work with Democrats and expected the two sides to work something out.
