Maya Hawke a rejoint la distribution du film en prises de vues réelles Magic: The Gathering, réalisé par Matt Johnson et produit par Legendary Entertainment et Hasbro Entertainment. Le film est adapté du jeu de cartes à collectionner de Hasbro, et le rôle de Hawke n’a pas été annoncé.
Johnson écrit également l’adaptation avec Noah Gardner et Aidan Fitzgerald. Le film s’inscrit dans un univers plus vaste de cinéma et de télévision qui réimagine la marque Hasbro.
Parmi les projets à venir de Hawke figurent The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, la comédie romantique Wishful Thinking et la série Netflix God of the Woods. Parmi ses précédents rôles figurent Inside Out 2, Asteroid City, Do Revenge, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Mainstream et Maestro.
Lancé en 1993, Magic: The Gathering s’est étendu au streaming, aux jeux numériques, à l’édition, aux produits de consommation et aux événements en direct. Ses collaborations croisées ont notamment inclus Final Fantasy, Marvel, Star Trek, Dungeons & Dragons et The Lord of the Rings.
