Josh O’Connor has responded to reports that he is among the actors being considered to play James Bond after Daniel Craig. The actor, known for The Crown, Knives Out and Challengers, said the possibility was extraordinary but declined to discuss the casting further.
Speaking at the opening of the Everyman Theatre in his hometown of Cheltenham on Tuesday, O’Connor described being linked to the role as an “incredibly bizarre pinch-me moment.” He said there was nothing else he could add.
Reports have also named Callum Turner and Jack Lowden as contenders. Lowden recently called the attention flattering, but said he did not want to add to the speculation.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in late October that screen tests for the next James Bond film were expected to take place in London soon. The film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight.
Pierce Brosnan, who previously played Bond, said he was now watching as an audience member and was eager to learn who would take on the role. He praised the actors named in the reports, particularly Turner, with whom he worked on The Only Living Boy in New York.
