Pierce Brosnan has voiced support for Callum Turner as a possible successor to James Bond, praising the actor while stopping short of predicting who will land the role. Brosnan and Turner worked together on the 2017 film The Only Living Boy in New York.

Asked by Vanity Fair about the names being discussed for the part, Brosnan said he was now watching as an audience member. He praised the actors reportedly in contention for their presence and potential longevity, then singled out Turner as “so strong.” Brosnan added that he wished whoever takes on the role “the very best” and was eager to hear the announcement.

Brosnan also welcomed Denis Villeneuve’s appointment to direct the next Bond film, describing the filmmaker’s work as visionary and saying he expected the movie to be “truly magnificent.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Turner and Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden are among those testing for the role. Lowden has said he would not add to the speculation, calling the attention flattering but noting that he does not listen to it.

Villeneuve is directing the new film, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing and overseeing the franchise for Amazon MGM Studios.
