Netflix has ordered Prep straight to series, adapting Curtis Sittenfeld’s bestselling novel for its young adult slate. Nicole Taylor, known for One Day, will write the adaptation and serve as showrunner.

The story follows Lee Fiora, a scholarship student from Indiana who attends the prestigious Ault boarding school in Massachusetts. As an outsider among wealthier classmates, she navigates high school and the social pressures of her new environment.

Taylor will executive produce alongside Sittenfeld and Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor. Sittenfeld praised Taylor’s scripts and said Alix Taylor had helped move the project forward.

Published in 2005, Prep became a bestseller and received critical acclaim. The Netflix series is set to be the first screen adaptation of one of Sittenfeld’s novels to reach production. A film based on her 2024 book romantic comedy is in development at New Line and Hello Sunshine; a Hulu project inspired by Rodham did not progress beyond development.
