Nicolas Cage has voiced his support for Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Ghost Rider film, nearly 20 years after Cage first played the Marvel character. “I was happy for him and wished him best of luck on his adventures,” Cage said, adding that he looks forward to seeing the movie.
Cage portrayed motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze, who makes a deal that turns him into a hunter of evil demons, in 2007’s Ghost Rider. He returned for the 2012 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Marvel announced at Comic-Con in July that Gosling would lead a new Ghost Rider film directed by Shawn Levy. Gosling said the character was one he had wanted to play for a long time. Cage said the two actors have spoken and stay in touch, and that Gosling knows how he feels about him as an actor.
The new film is scheduled for July 28, 2028. Connor Storrie is in talks to play its villain. Eva Mendes, Gosling’s wife, appeared with Cage in the 2007 film and has supported Gosling taking on the character.
Cage is also starring as John Madden in David O. Russell’s film Madden, which follows the football figure and his relationship with Raiders owner Al Davis. It is set for a limited theatrical release on Nov. 11 and will begin streaming on Prime Video on Nov. 18.
