Emerson College will launch a Bachelor of Arts in content creation in fall 2027, giving communications students a new option centered on the expanding creator economy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The program will draw on Emerson’s existing expertise in storytelling, production and communications while adding coursework in marketing, audience development, branding and business strategy. The curriculum will reflect the owner-operator nature of digital content creation, with students developing original work while studying the business and ethics of digital platforms.
Students will also learn how to reach and engage audiences, alongside topics including digital and financial literacy. The degree is designed to combine creative production with the entrepreneurial skills needed to develop sustainable careers in digital media.
“Emerson has long prepared students for success in emerging creative industries with a focus on hands-on, real world application in our academic disciplines and now this new major builds on our tradition by combining creativity, technology and entrepreneurial skills for the next generation,” Emerson president Jay Bernhardt said.
The Bachelor of Arts in content creation will be housed in Emerson’s School of Communication, within the Department of Strategic Marketing and Business. Department chair Brenna McCormick said the program would teach students both how to produce digital content and how to build an entrepreneurial career around their creative work.
Emerson is included among The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 best film schools of 2026. Its alumni include filmmaker Daniel Kwan, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, writer Norman Lear, former Warner Bros. film co-chief Pamela Abdy, and actors Henry Winkler and Jennifer Coolidge.
